Special Edition Blog Post for Tim F.
My very good friend, Tim, received a state of the art Crockpot this past Christmas. Upon hearing this news, I was excited to share all the exciting ways he could use this new cooking method to create simple, healthy and delicious meals. From making bone broth, soups, and stews to BBQ chicken and potatoes, this Crockpot was going to open Tim up to a whole new world!!!
So, how has he done since Christmas? Well...he hasn't even plugged it in. It initially made it's proud and shiny debut to the most prominent spot on the kitchen counter, but month after month, slowly gathering dust, it retreated to the corner ashamed.
To spur him on I made April the challenge month, where I had to join a "Meet Up" group if he could make one meal. Today, April 27th, he asked me for an extension. Oh Tim.
I began thinking about procrastination and the different forms it can take on different types of people. Let's be honest I'm picking on Tim unfairly because we all procrastinate, especially yours truly. Tim is very successful, motivated, has a killer Chicago apartment, and the love of a great woman, but why can't he bring himself to use the Crockpot!! Just once Tim!!
Recently, Tim Urban, founder of the website/blog "Wait But Why", gave an excellent TED talk dealing with this very subject. In the video you'll find amazing insights into the mind of a procrastinator, as well as his method for setting proper time tables. Well worth the view.
